Iāve recently discovered that my grandfather (Fante) was part of the Twidan Clan and was āroyalty.ā
Initially, I felt shafted I was never told this but then I realized clans always get passed down through the mother. My grandfather married an American woman, they had a daughter and she had me so effectively Iām not a part of that clan.
I was considering going back to that clan to continue my grandfathers legacy and essentially ask to be adopted but the more I read about the clans in general I get a little nervous. Iām starting to think maybe my grandfather didnāt tell me 1. Because Iām not part of the clan. But 2. Maybe because of the royalty politics.
Here are some questions I have based on my discoveries:
Because Iām American, if I joined this clan to continue and help my people will I likely be extorted?
Is it typical that the abusuapanyin has land to give to her royal family?
I understand that village/town projects need funding to complete them etc. is there a way to negotiate how much I have to contribute to? I donāt want to hear my brothers and sisters should contribute 500 cedis and then I should donate 2000 cedis. I want to be treated the same.
Is it true that as royalty your door should be open to everyone? That makes me nervous. I have children and Iād be in a foreign country. I need to assess danger levels before letting random people in my home.
Ideally, if I did something like this, Iād donate thousands to my clan, assuming theyāre not corrupt.
Iād love to reconnect with long lost family, build clean water systems for my people, obtain land from the abusuapanyin, and create businesses/jobs. Primarily as an investor though. I want to look low-key/broke. I really donāt want people sniffing what I have and start relentlessly looking for handouts.
My thing is I donāt want to be TOLD , you must donate x amount of money. Thatāll make me shut down and feel used.
So my question is- are the requirements once you get in a clan, Iām thinking Takoaradi (donāt know if I spelled that right) so voluminous that itās not even worth being in?
Iām looking for guidance on what Iād like to do. Thanks. š
