1997 BMW Z3 with an auto trans

Pulled it around the block to get it into my bay, it'll just free rev for a second before moving and the trans sounds like shit

Went to check trans fluid to see if there was any metal in it

And welp, ain't got no fluid in it

Best part was the LIFETIME FLUID sticker on the pan

The Latest Project rolled into my Messy "Shop"

So porter the '63 F250 is in the muffler shop getting his exhaust welded properly instead of just tied on with bailing wire so in the mean-time i've been working on my other Project: a 1976 MG Midget.

Got her for 450 dollars, basically scrap. Cheapest car i've ever bought.

She had every gasket blown, no brakes, swiss cheese for Fuel Lines, the dirtiest gas tank known by man, criss-crossed wires, enough vacuum leaks to compete with the International Space Station and almost every bolt was either stripped or cross-threaded, the radiator leaked, the water pump was dry, rear lights are disconnected, fuel gauge doesnt work, BUT its 99.9% rust free.

Oh it also came with Latex Paint Job.... for some reason.

A lot of those tasks were fun little 30 minute jobs, but the gaskets are currently on the plate. After a top end teardown im fairly certain someone in the 90's-2000s tried to turn this into an autocross car. Its got SPEED parts on it! I think they pushed the old chap a bit too far, overheated, blew the radiator and gaskets and tucked it away for my dumbass to find.

Once the engine is finished up it will do a few autocross challenges nearby and then I'll be putting a 2015 Nissan Leaf engine into it. Ever had a manual electric car? No? Me either, sounds fun though.

Another shop broke a glow plug off on a OM642(common, not thier fault), ive never had one fight me light this. The ceramic center is kicking my ass and will barely chip with even the best of my machinist bits, and its causing my bit to want to wonder off center. Thread pocket cut nicely but Ive got a fresh carbide bit I'm gonna try. Id rather not have to pull the head because it looks like a giant bowl of cluster fucks.

Airbag warning message is on. There is a bill of sale from July in the glovebox (as is where is written in big letters in the conditions). It has aftermarket seat covers on it. The steering wheel is crooked and it makes a groaning noise on the test drive. There is a lot of still damaged metal under the drivers fender covered up as well.

Some sellers are going to hell.

C/S pretty sure it needs a wheel bearing...

Even dripped it off (towed in) with a bearing, seals, and an outer tie rod end.

Wish these customers would just talk to the service advisor or me about what needs to be done instead of putting this AI slop on their tickets.

Almost had a bad day. One of the many reasons I like to do these things myself. Dude must have installed that thing with a breaker bar. And the second picture is what I see when I filter off. You cannot convince me the filter was that tight on accident.

F150XL. The front right wheel was completely frozen and dude seriously thought it just needed pads. Brought his own even. Had to buy a rotor, caliper and hose, though.

I am almost envious of some people's ability to ignore shit like this. It's a special kind of ignorant bliss that seems to assistsm in what must be a worry free life. Until they get the bill anyway. 🤣

Eccentric dual mass flywheel

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've been chasing a noisy vibration at low revs in this car for a while. It seems the previous owner of this Volvo V60 had replaced the clutch, but not the slave cylinder and not the dual mass flywheel. ~30,000 miles later the flywheel is munted.

I got the gearbox and clutch off to find this mess. It has huge play towards one corner and so much out of plane movement it's actually worn half a millimetre off the bolts. It had worn through a steel sleeve between the hub and the damped part too.

All being replaced with OEM Luk parts.

Fixed a leak in my Passat

I was worried the plastic nipple would bread off inside the coolant hose but it turns out it already happened to someone else. Turns out a brass fitting and silicone leaks anyway. But hey previous owner saved up on a 15 dollar part!

If they had used teflon or some sort of thread sealer it probably wouldn’t have leaked, but no.
