We are human beings, not numbers… How long will the killing of civilians in Gaza continue?

Today, the Gaza Strip witnessed another security incident after an Israeli special forces unit infiltrated Gaza City to arrest a Hamas security official. Regardless of the targeted individual's identity or political or organizational affiliation, a larger and more crucial question must be asked: What about the civilians?

Every time there is a military operation, clash, or bombardment, civilians pay the price. Children, women, and young people, who have no connection to what is happening, find themselves caught in the crossfire, amidst shelling, fear, and death.

We are not just talking about numbers… We are talking about mothers who have lost their sons, children who have lost their parents, and families forced once again to confront loss, displacement, and fear.

How long will this continue?

How long will we continue to die every day?

How long will we be displaced from one place to another?

How long will we bury our loved ones, then try to start over, only to have our tents and homes destroyed, forcing us to flee again?

We are human beings. We have names, memories, dreams, and families we love. We are not just numbers in news reports, and our lives are not worthless.

Three years of war, destruction, and displacement have trapped us in an endless cycle: we lose, we flee, we rebuild what we can, and then the bombing comes to destroy everything again.

How long will this go on? When will civilian lives in Gaza have value? When will this killing stop? And when will we finally be allowed to live like the rest of humanity?

History Nepal: A Case Study in Suffering

There was a terrible glacier‑ice‑rock avalanche on the Nepal-Tibet border, triggering a flash flood that killed hundreds in Nepal and Tibet.

Nepal has contributed little to global warming, yet it will keep suffering climate‑driven avalanches for years to come. It is a country that has limited strategic value for the major powers but not enough to command sustained global attention. Its disasters may just flare briefly in the world’s consciousness and then disappear.

I'm posting this article because few people outside of Nepal know this country's difficult history and current challenges. This is a compassionate article that tries to inform others that the avalanche and flood were horrible, but Nepal has been struggling for a number of reasons for awhile.
